Angie Honaker

LCSW  ·  LICDC  ·  Trauma & EMDR Specialist

I provide trauma-informed therapy for adults who are ready for meaningful healing — not just symptom management. Many of my clients are insightful, capable, and highly functioning on the outside, yet feel internally stuck.

They may understand why they feel the way they do but still struggle to feel safe, calm, or connected in their bodies and relationships. That gap between knowing and feeling is exactly where my work begins.

I specialize in EMDR and holistic approaches to mental health. My work focuses on helping you move beyond insight alone and into real nervous-system change using evidence-based, trauma-focused approaches.

I view therapy as a collaborative journey, where you are the expert on your own experiences. Together, we will explore your goals, strengths, and challenges — working towards sustainable growth and meaningful change. My aim is to empower you with the tools and insights necessary to overcome obstacles and lead a fulfilling life.

What Is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based trauma therapy that helps your brain reprocess painful memories and stuck negative beliefs — so they no longer hold the same emotional charge.

Unlike talk therapy alone, EMDR works directly with the nervous system. You don't have to recount every detail of your trauma. Instead, bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or sound) helps your brain do what it was always designed to do: heal.

The result isn't just intellectual understanding — it's a felt shift. Memories that once sent your body into panic become more like old photographs: present, but no longer overwhelming.

"You can understand your trauma completely and still feel its grip. EMDR is about changing how it lives in your body."

Common Questions

FAQ

EMDR adapts well to telehealth. Using your screen, I guide bilateral stimulation through eye movements or you can use tactile methods like tapping. Many clients find telehealth EMDR just as effective as in-person — and the comfort of your own space can actually support the process.
The first session is about getting to know you. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, your history, and your goals. There's no pressure to dive into trauma right away — building trust and safety comes first. EMDR processing typically begins in later sessions once we've built a strong foundation.
It varies. Some clients see significant shifts in 6–12 sessions; others with complex trauma benefit from longer-term work. We'll regularly check in on your progress and adjust the plan together. There's no one-size-fits-all timeline — we go at your pace.
No. One of the strengths of EMDR is that you don't have to verbally recount every detail of what happened. We focus more on what you notice in your body, emotions, and thoughts during the reprocessing — rather than a narrative account of events.
Yes — Angie is in-network with Aetna, Anthem, BCBS, Cigna, Medical Mutual, Optum, and more. If you have private insurance, booking through Headway may allow you to use your benefits directly. Self-pay and sliding-scale options are also available.
Many clients come to me after feeling like they've "already tried therapy." Talk therapy builds insight — and insight is valuable. But it doesn't always reach the nervous system where trauma lives. EMDR works differently, and often helps people move past the plateau they hit with traditional approaches.
Telehealth is available to anyone located in Ohio. You'll need a private space and a stable internet connection. Most clients find it convenient and surprisingly intimate — being in your own home can actually ease anxiety around starting therapy.
